This is immersive, and it is a good listen, but it has a sort of. We move into another atmospheric section, and the frequency spaces open the sound up a bit, and we get somdrums rolling into the sides, cymbals placed around us. We do have an immersive mix, but it isn't a crystal clear mix. Same kind of sound takes over as we move into the main guts of the track, and fairly quickly. We open with some gentle atmospheric guitars and the sound space enjoys the mellow change, and it sounds good. They appear to have spent some time and money on the videos here. The guitars seem a little more defined on this track, and we get some sfx rolling through the rears. We have a very similar sounding mix here.
We do have an immersive mix, but it doesn't seem to pop. We do seem to have nice balanced frequencies across the soundfield. I get the feeling it's a fairly compressed mix.Īlthough there is a lot of sub here, it doesn't seem to obliterate the other instruments. The bass guitar has pretty solid sub assistance too. The kick drum is heavily based in the sub, and the kick drum sound is really solid. Going around the speakers we have guitars in the rears, but oddly the majority of the sound seems to be coming from the front. We have the 5.1 in either dtshd master audio, of 96/24 lpcm so we'll see, hopefully this isn't one of those generated mixes. Mixing and Mastering Andy Sneap, Backstage Studios UKīut we get a bunch of information about the videos. In the book the only credit for mixing, is We'll see how we go here, and hopefully we have a proper 5.1 mix and it seems I should have had a listen to the self titled album, but apparently haven't yet So far with Dream Theater we have looked at Systematic Chaos - Distance Over Time. and I want both, even if it's just to hear them, but in book sets for a hundred bucks (including the now exorbitant shipping) I may have to let them slide, as the budget is a little broken at the moment. For example, we have the new (in June next bloody year mind you) Porcupine Tree album, and it appears I will have to spend a hundred bucks to get that, as the "limited" "artbook" is the only version available, and as surround mixes are Mr Wilson's bread and butter, it seems a poor decision in many ways.Īlso the new Anderson/Tull release coming up soon, is in a similar boat. a $15-30 lone bluray would do all that I need, and these sets with cd's and records, and bonus discs of stuff I will likely never listen to, in a box bigger than I really want are becoming the only way to go. I'm starting to get a little annoyed with the artbook idea myself, they look nice and they are slim, but it seems like an excuse to slide a few extra bucks out of my pocket for something I'm not totally interested in. I must say, that if you have no issue with the Artbook release, the pictures are quite imaginative and look really very good. I suppose that's one of the issues when so much stuff is put on pre-sale so early, and life is racing by so fast, you don't notice the minutiae. I guess I'm so busy and tired I ordered it twice lol. I'm not sure how I managed it, but I ended up with one of each.
